School Leadership Assessments

Certain pathways have a certification exam requirement for theÌýSchool Building Leader (SBL), School District Leader (SDL), and School District Business Leader (SDBL)Ìýcertificate titles. These exam requirements can be met either by passing the appropriate NYSTCE School Leadership Assessment (exam) or qualifying for the exam waiver.

School Building Leader Assessment Information

For the Initial School Building Leader certificate, individuals can fulfill the School Building Leader Assessment requirement for certification by passing:

  • Part One of either the Revised (Sept. 2013) School Building Leader Assessment or Revised (May 2019) School Building Leader Assessment,ÌýAND
  • Part Two of either the Revised (Sept. 2013) School Building Leader Assessment or Revised (May 2019) School Building Leader Assessment.

Part One and Part Two can be from different versions of the School Building Leader Assessment (i.e., Sept. 2013 or May 2019 versions).

Note:ÌýThe Sept. 2013 versions of these exams have been retired and are no longer offered, but we will continue to accept those versions until further notice. If you did not take those versions, you will need to register for the May 2019 version.
